Mathematics
is a fundamental part of human thoughts and logic, and integral to attempt at
understanding the world and ourselves. Mathematics provides an effective way of
building mental discipline and encourages logical reasoning and mental rigor.
In Sri Lankan education system mathematics hold a special place and knowledge
on basic mathematics is essential. But unfortunately districts like Badulla
haven't enough facilities to promote mathematic education. Due to that several
students are getting below 40% average as their mathematics result, by
considering this massive issue we, Rotaract Club of Badulla decided to organize
a seminar especially for the O/L students who have below 40% average result for
mathematics in Badulla education zone.
Our main objective
was to provide basic mathematical knowledge to students who have below 40%
average result for mathematics and encourage them for upcoming ordinary level
examination.
As the
initial step we got the permission from zonal education office to conduct the
seminar for students who have below 40% average mark for the mathematics and
through the zonal education office the details was informed to the particular
schools as well. Then we got the help of special set of educators from the
university (lecturers from science and technology department) to create the
mathematics paper up-to the standard level. And finally certify the paper from
zonal education office prior to the seminar. Since the project was mainly aimed
at students who go with the lower mark for their exams we were highly concerned
about the quality of the paper.
We got the
recognition from the Badulla educational zone for initiative, because Nanasara
was a unique seminar totally focused on rural schools and mathematically weak
students. And they have requested from Rotaract club of Badulla to conduct this
sort of seminars again.
